Virtual Elements for the AMS 101st Annual Meeting

Virtual Elements for the AMS 101st Annual Meeting

Update - November 30, 2020

We are well into planning for our first virtual annual meeting and are excited to tell you about the many creative ways you can share your science, connect with current colleagues, and launch new relationships.  As you might imagine, our plans are evolving—we encourage you to visit the 101st AMS Annual Meeting FAQs and this website often to stay up to date.

When we pivoted to a virtual meeting, we had hoped to host a smaller, in-person meeting in New Orleans for those who would still like to gather. It has become increasingly clear it will not be safe to do so, and we have focused all of our efforts into offering the very best virtual meeting experience for everyone.

We are excited about how our theme: “Strengthening Engagement with Communities through our Science and Services” has come together in this new virtual format, thanks to the hard work and creativity of the Planning Committee co-chaired by Tanja Fransen and Nate Johnson.

A few key events you won’t want to miss:

The  AMS Presidential Forum: Building a Culture of Anti-Racism in the Weather, Water and Climate Community is scheduled for Sunday, 10 January at 4pm EST. The 101st Annual Meeting Awards Ceremony and Annual Meeting Welcome will be held immediately after at 5pm EST. We are excited that the virtual format for the Sunday events will be open to all and it gives us the unique opportunity to include family and friends that would not normally travel to the event in person.

Two Presidential Sessions are being planned.

But you don’t have to wait until 10 January to start learning and connecting! The conference website goes live on 4 January.

Sign on any time between 4-10 January to create your profile, design your agenda, view pre-recorded content for oral and poster sessions, view the exhibitor list, and familiarize yourself with our Virtual Meeting Platform. Then join us throughout the weekend of 9-10 January for select conferences and events— including the Student Conference, Early Career Conference, and Coriolis Reception.

Please note: the short courses and committee meetings that would normally take place before and during the Annual Meeting will take place after 15 January 2021 to allow attendees to focus on the technical content being presented during the 101st Annual Meeting.

Questions? Suggestions? Comments? We’d love to hear from you! Contact the AMS Meetings Department at [email protected].

See you in January!
