Call for Papers

We are thrilled to announce the 2016 AMS Student Conference: Beyond the Weather: Embracing the Interface of Science and Society 9–10 January 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Important eligibility requirement: You must be an active 2016 AMS student member to attend the AMS Student Conference. You must be an undergraduate or graduate student to present a poster at the Poster Session!

Sessions will include invited speakers from the private, broadcast, academic, and government sectors, and will engage and excite students on potential career options with recent research in atmospheric science. During the conference, a career fair and networking evening will provide a forum for students to personally interact with potential employers and graduate institutions. In addition, a special poster session at the conclusion of the conference will provide a great opportunity for students to showcase their research. The student conference is intended for all undergraduates and graduate students.

We encourage active AMS student members to submit abstracts about a wide range of topics. Please ensure you have applied or renewed your AMS student membership prior to submitting your abstract.  All accepted abstracts will be scheduled as a poster, which will be displayed during the 15th Annual Student Conference Poster Session on Sunday evening. During the Poster Session, students who have opted in on their abstract submission may be formally judged as part of the 2016 Student Conference Poster Competition. Students are encouraged to stand by their posters and answer questions during the “formal poster-viewing hours,” currently scheduled for Sunday, 10 January from 5:45 PM until 7:15 PM.

Abstracts for this conference may cover a wide range of student interests and activities. Suggested topics include (i) overviews of ongoing student research projects, (ii) student applications of emerging technologies, and (iii) perspectives on students’ future research and proposals. We anticipate accommodating all submitted abstracts at the Poster Session, which makes this a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their work to peers and potential collaborators.
