Applications Due: 14 October 2016
The Student Assistant Program is open to undergraduate students who are active AMS student members. The program provides student assistants with hotel accommodations (shared with one or two other students), meeting registration, and a small per diem to help offset daily meal expenses. Student assistants are assigned to help with various tasks, including attendee registration, book/retail exhibit, committee meetings, and speaker support. Students must secure their own travel arrangements to and from Seattle. AMS does not cover travel costs.
When students are not working they have the opportunity to network, attend sessions, and visit the exhibit area. Although the opportunity to be a student assistant is fun and educationally rewarding, it is also a demanding job. AMS takes this program very seriously! We are looking for students who can work well with others, be depended upon, and are able and willing to take direction from AMS staff members. AMS Students are not eligible to serve as a student assistant for more than two Annual meetings.
Undergraduate students must be an AMS student member or full member with student privileges. For current members, the 2017 membership dues should be renewed online by September 30th and prior to applying for a student assistant position. If you are not a member and would like to apply for a student assistant position, you must submit an online membership application and pay for the full year of 2017. Once the online application is properly submitted, you will be able to set up an account profile for access to the student assistant application within 24 hours, provided this is done in a timely fashion prior to the deadline date. Students must be referred by their academic advisor. An electronic signature confirms that your advisor finds you in good standing to apply for a Student Assistant position. Membership renewals or new membership applications, sent by postal service, cannot process in time. All interested students must use the online application service as explained in these guidelines. AMS is not responsible for applications that fail to transfer through.
This program is opened to current undergraduate student members of AMS. For more information about membership, please visit our member page.
Advisors will receive an automatic email of notification once the application is submitted. Applications are reviewed and selected after the deadline date or until the designated number of assistant slots is filled. A waiting list will be established after that time in the case a student withdraws his/her student assistant position. We will accept up to four students from any one school, unless the number of assistants needed is not met. The application will close after the deadline and no further applications will be accepted, unless we have not met the number of students needed! All candidates are notified by e-mail of their standing.
Any questions regarding the Student Assistant program may be directed to Donna Fernandez at email@example.com or 617-226-3907.
