The AMS Membership Committee would like to offer a way for AMS members to highlight and recognize their participation and experiences, become more involved, and make their Annual Meeting experience more personable. One way we believe we can demonstrate this is to provide an opportunity for the AMS Community to create brief video testimonials that could be posted before and during the Annual Meeting. We, therefore, respectfully request your involvement as attendees of the upcoming AMS Annual Meeting to record and upload short video blogs sharing their personal thoughts to Annual Meeting attendees.
This initiative is targeted at all AMS members and Annual Meeting attendees. We know that you as meeting participants and representatives of the amazing diversity in our weather, water, climate and space profession have a great deal of advice to offer, and we want to share their knowledge and excitement with others. Below are some topics that could be included in a video blog:
- Share experiences from previous conferences, symposia, and participation in AMS/professional activities
- Offer a warm welcome to this year's conference attendees
- Share excitement of attending this meeting or a particular seminar/symposium
- Share with them why you are a member of AMS
It would be helpful to follow these Video Blog Upload instructions: AMS will share your videos with the membership via YouTube. Here are the Steps for YouTube Uploads:
- Record your personal video on your smartphone (or other device to upload to your computer)
- Upload your video to your YouTube Account/Channel from your smartphone (you will automatically be asked to create an account if you are uploading to YouTube for the first time, otherwise, you will login to your existing account)
- Visit your video on your online YouTube account and click 'Share' (if you cannot share your video directly from your smartphone, visit your YouTube account from a computer and follow Steps 3 & 4).
- Select the 'Email' option and send the message to: 'ametsoc'
Once received, AMS will then add your video to its YouTube playlist of video interviews for the AMS 2012 Meeting on the 'ametsoc channel', and that's it!
NOTE: If you do not have a YouTube account, here are two quick ways to do it:
- If you do have a Google Account (gmail address), then adding YouTube is very simple. Just visit http://www.youtube.com, click Sign in at the top-right corner, and enter your Google Account login information.
- If you do not have a Google account, visit http://www.youtube.com and click Create Account. Enter your information to create a Google Account, review the Terms of Service, then click I accept. Create my account.
The entire Membership Committee, with this initiative led by committee member Sarah Dillingham, strongly believes that if AMS members and others who are interested in participating in AMS events and activities can get a look "behind the scenes" and make a connection with fellow members and leaders in the AMS Community, it can invoke more excitement from them and increase their participation and individual member experience. These videos will be just one more way to help improve members' personal and professional relationships within the organization--we very much look forward to this opportunity!
