The 26th Conference on Hydrology, sponsored by the American Meteorological Society, and organized by the AMS Committee on Hydrology, will be held 22–26 January 2012, as part of the 92nd AMS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Hydrology Conference solicits papers on advances in hydrology, hydrometeorology and related topics from both scientific and operational perspectives. In particular, the Conference on Hydrology plans to host sessions with the following topics:

• Advances in Estimating Land Surface Evaporation and Associated Applications
• Advances in Methods and Applications of Land Data Assimilation Systems

• Benchmarking, identification and verification in land surface modeling

• Drought Definition, Analysis, Impacts, Prediction and Management (joint with CVC)
• Flood Analysis, Monitoring, Prediction and Management
• Hydrologic Prediction and Verification for Water and Energy Resources and other applications
• Hydrometeorological Applications of GPM: Next-generation technology to advance scientific understanding of the Earth's water and energy cycle and to improve predictions of weather, climate, and freshwater resources (hosted by SATMET)
• Land Surface-Atmosphere Interactions (joint with CVC)
• Post-stationarity: Hydrologic Analysis and Predictions in a Changing Environment
• Precipitation Processes and Observations for Atmospheric, Land Surface, and Hydrological Modeling
• Regional Climate Modeling and/or Downscaling of Climate Variability and Change for Local Scale Assessment
• Remote Sensing of Hydrometeorological Variables (including soil moisture, snow and other quantities related to hydrometeorology, and associated missions such as SMAP and SMOS) (joint with SATMET)
• Theory and Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Hydrometeorology (joint with AI)
The Conference on Hydrology will co-sponsor related sessions that are hosted by other conferences -- in particular:
• Hydrometeorological Applications of GPM: Next-generation technology to advance scientific understanding of the Earth's water and energy cycle and to improve predictions of weather, climate, and freshwater resources (hosted by SATMET)
Hydrology also welcomes submissions that support the overall theme of the 92nd Annual AMS Meeting: “Technology in Research and Operations – How We Got Here and Where We’re Going.” To this end, Hydrology is excited to join the IIPS Conference in co-hosting a Joint Themed Session:
• Technology Advances for the Water Information Customer
The Hydrology Committee will host a student paper competition with awards for exemplary student poster and oral presentations.
