The Eighth Annual Symposium on Future Operational Environmental Satellite Systems, sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) and the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-Series (GOES-R) Symposium Committee, will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, 24–25 January 2012, in conjunction with of the 92nd AMS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA.
The overall theme of the 92nd AMS Annual Meeting is “Technology in Research and Operations – How We Got Here and Where We’re Going.” This two-day symposium will consist of invited oral and poster presentations with emphasis on how JPSS, GOES-R and other future operational environmental satellite systems will enhance our nation’s ability to: observe, understand, predict, and communicate weather and climate data and forecasts to direct users and to the public. The symposium will address capabilities of these future operational satellite systems to improve weather and environmental data products, enhance user applications, blend and fuse satellite data from multiple sources into more useful products, and rapidly disseminate data and products to the national and international user community via Direct Broadcast and other data dissemination services.
