Purpose: Connect teachers with some of the most innovative and forwarding thinking scientists in our Nation and to create a partnership to enhance our Nation’s ability to understand the causes of andresponse to severe weather events.
Opportunities abound to interact with our nation’s weather and climate experts through WeatherFest, TeacherWorkshop, Teacher Short course and the Symposium on Education.
Registration: Registration deadline has passed. The last day to register was 21 December 2012.

Hot Science Cool Talks – Dr. Kerry Emmanuel – 7PM - UT
AMS and ESI present *Hot Science – Cool Talks* with Dr. Kerry Emanuel of MIT, on Tuesday, 8 January 2013 at the Student Activities Center (SAC) at the University of Texas Campus in Austin. Dr. Emanuel’s talk will focus on the history of the Texas coast, including the Galveston hurricane of 1900, and projections for the future. Any teachers attending AMS are welcome to attend. This event will be webcast live for those that cannot attend
in-person. Lecture begins at 7:00pm CST. Pre-lecture Fair begins at 5:45pm.

Sponsorship is being sought to provide teachers with free annual meeting registration, which will allow them to take advantage of the outstanding AMS Annual Meeting events and conferences being planned.
- 22nd Symposium on Education
The theme for the 22nd Symposium on Education is “Creative and Effective Teaching in Challenging Times”. Papers are solicited on all aspects of educational outreach in the atmospheric, oceanic and hydrologic sciences, including topics on K-12 and informal, university, and professional education. Preference will be given to papers that connect to the theme of the Symposium and to that of the annual meeting “Taking Predictions to the Next Level: Expanding Beyond Today’s Weather and Climate Forecasts and Projects.”
- AMS Beacons Program to Help Lighten the AMS Annual Meeting!
The AMS Beacons Program is an initiative of the Membership Committee and is firmly rooted in former Executive Director Kenneth Spengler's legacy of fostering the AMS as an open, inclusive, and welcoming organization. The Beacons program is an ambassador program with a member-staffed goodwill cadre reflecting AMS initiatives mandate to serve its existing, returning, and potentially new members.
