Applying Machine Learning Techniques for Information Processing

This session will bring together researchers in artificial intelligence, data mining, statistics, and information processing technologies. As the size and scale of environmental datasets increases, it has become increasingly important to apply data mining and machine learning techniques such as decision trees, neural networks and fuzzy logic to extract key information from data and present it to decision makers. This session will include a discussion of:

  • Existing artificial intelligence applications for information processing
  • Identification of the need for better methods in some application area
  • Societal impacts of such data mining such as targeted forecasts and privacy
  • Comparison of heuristic methods with objective methods
