Volunteer Opportunity

Sunday, 6 January, Morning Shift:10:00 – 12:00pm, Afternoon Shift: 3:00 – 5:00pm

Please join colleagues from the meteorological community and volunteer to help remove litter from the Lady Bird Lake shoreline. AMS is coordinating a volunteer day in conjunction with Keep Austin Beautiful (KAB) on the Sunday prior to the AMS Annual Meeting (6 January). KAB’s goal is “to clean, beautify and protect the Austin environment through physical improvements and hands-on education.” Please plan hotel and flight arrangements accordingly to include a day to join with colleagues in this important effort!

Pre-Registration Required
Volunteers may sign up when registering for the AMS Annual Meeting until Wednesday, 19 December 2012.

There will be two shifts on Sunday, 6 January 2013:

10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

3:00–5:00 p.m.

Volunteers begin their shifts at the KAB Volunteer Event sign near the AMS Registration Desk in the Austin Convention Center (South Entrance on 4th Street). A waiver will need to be signed prior to participating. Please dress in weather-appropriate outdoor work attire. (January temperatures are expected to be between 40° and 60°F.) Since debris collects near the shoreline and in tall grass areas, galoshes would be ideal. All tools, gloves, trashbags, and sunscreen will be provided. Rain cancels (& will be announced on this page).

For additional information, please see the Keep Austin Beautiful Web site or contact the AMS Volunteer Coordinator, Cara Campbell at ccampbell@ametsoc.org or (617) 226-3969.
