Student Travel Grants

Travel grants are available for current senior undergraduate and graduate students to attend the 94th AMS Annual Meeting. AMS recognizes the considerable benefit that students can gain from attending conferences even if they are not presenting a paper.  AMS wants to encourage interactions between students and other conference attendees. To this end, travel grants will be awarded to students who are not presenting a paper at a conference during the annual meeting.  Take note that presenting at the AMS Annual Student Conference does not fall under this rule.

Travel grants are available to AMS student members and members with student privileges.   A student can receive no more than one travel grant award per calendar year, and may not apply for more than two meetings per calendar year, and not more than one conference per meeting (with the annual meeting counting as a single meeting), i.e., a student applies for travel grant to the annual meeting and receives an award, that student is not eligible to apply for another conference within the calendar year.

The grant will cover round-trip air travel to the meeting, hotel room and tax (the grant recipient is responsible for meals and incidentals), and conference registration fee, excluding short courses. Students will share a room with one or two other awardees at the discretion of AMS.

Application Process and Deadline Information

Eligible student members must renew their 2014 membership online no later than deadline passed, prior to applying for a grant.  If you are not a member and would like to apply for a travel grant, you must submit an online membership application and pay for the full year of 2014.  Once the online application is properly submitted, you will be able to set up an account profile for access to the travel grant application within 24 hours, provided this is done prior to the deadline date.  Students must be referred by their academic advisor.  An electronic signature confirms that your advisor is aware and has referred you to apply for a Student Travel Grant.  Advisors will receive an automatic email of notification once the application is submitted.  Membership renewals or new membership applications, sent by postal service, cannot process in time.  All interested candidates must use the online service as explained in these guidelines to be considered.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  AMS is not responsible for applications that fail to transfer through.

Interested students should complete the online application form no later than midnight of 1deadline passed.  To access the online application, create a password profile using your membership email address.  Be sure to fill in all areas of the form and include a valid email address.  The grant application will not be available after the deadline date.  The application deadline date is deadline passed.  There are no exceptions after the deadline!

All applicants will be notified of their standing by email.  Notices will go out two weeks after the deadline.  If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Donna Fernandez at (617) 226-3907 or email [email protected].
