11th Conference on Space Weather
Call for Papers
The 11th Conference on Space Weather, sponsored by the American Meteorological Society, and organized by the AMS Committee on Space Weather, will be held 2–6 February 2014, as part of the 94th AMS Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. Preliminary programs, registration, hotel, and general information will be posted on the AMS Web site (http://www.ametsoc.org/meet/annual/) in late-September 2013.
The theme for the 2014 AMS Annual Meeting is “Extreme Weather—Climate and the Built Environment: New perspectives, opportunities, and tools.” This theme was chosen as a vehicle to combine scientific inquiry, technological advances, societal implications, and public awareness through the lens of extreme weather and climate events. The 11th CSW will organize sessions on agency space weather activity updates, and showcase advances in observations, modeling, and applications. In synergy with this year’s Theme for the Annual Meeting, the CSW will host sessions on solar cycle influences on space weather and wave-driven forcing from the lower atmosphere (tides, planetary and gravity waves) to illustrate the impact of vertical coupling within the Earth’s atmosphere including the impact of earthquakes and tsunamis on the upper atmosphere. In the area of “tools” the CSW solicits talks on new instruments and techniques for optical remote sensing of the upper atmosphere and will provide a forum for the developers of space weather apps for smart phones. This year’s Theme also encourages presentations covering effective strategies for communication, mitigation, emergency response, and public behavior or perceptions.
