All registrants for the AMS Annual Meeting are invited to attend the Johnson Symposium. A luncheon to honor Donald R. Johnson will be held on 6 February. The Johnson luncheon ticket is not included in the conference registration package and must be purchased separately. All attendees interested in the luncheon are encouraged to purchase tickets when preregistering since only a limited number will be available on site. There will also be an informal reception at the end of the day.

Call for Papers

The Symposium will honor the long and illustrious career of Dr. Donald R. Johnson of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, University of Wisconsin.  We are trying to assemble as many of Don’s former students and colleagues as we can to give our thanks for guiding us in our careers and his many contributions to atmospheric science.

The symposium will consist of both oral and poster presentations. All oral talks will be invited and all other submitted papers will appear as posters.  There will be an opportunity for poster presenters to make brief oral introductory comments during the symposium.

There will be a luncheon at which Don will speak and an informal reception at the end of the day.

The symposium will be built around the major themes of Don’s work: Angular Momentum/Energetics, Advancing Numerical Prediction and the Development of Hybrid Models, Global Circulations, and Education/Public Policy. Papers in any of these areas are encouraged.  We also encourage papers related to recent work of Don’s former students, which may fall outside these areas.

For additional information please contact the program chairperson, Bob Gall ([email protected]).
