2014 AMS Annual Meeting

Join us for the 2nd Annual AMS Conference for Early Career Professionals, hosted by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Board for Early Career Professionals (BECP), 2 February 2014 as part of the 94th AMS Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.  A registration fee of $25 has been set for this conference and registration must be completed online.  There will be no on-site registration and you must register by 14 January 2014.  Registrants requesting to register after 14 January will need to pay a $15 late fee, in addition to the $25 registration fee.  There will be no requests honored after 28 January 2014.

In 2012, the AMS established BECP to serve as a resource for the development of early career professionals, both academic and in career, and to serve as a platform for early career involvement in a variety of AMS-sponsored activities.   More information on the BECP can be found on Facebook (search for “AMS Early Career Professionals”) and in the July 2012 issue of the Bulletin of the AMS.  The 2nd Annual AMS Conference for Early Career Professionals will take place from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, 2 February 2013.

The first half of the conference will feature involve rotating group discussions, led by professionals in the atmospheric sciences, who will focus on what to do once you have that first job and what skills you should consider developing which you did not necessarily  learn in school.  Topics will include how to keep the job you have, how to get the next job, how to become a leader even when you are not in a leadership position, and how to handle working with others.

The second half of the conference will include two panel discussions.  One panel with AMS leadership will discuss how the Society can benefit members who are beginning their careers in the atmospheric sciences.  The second panel with other early- and mid-career meteorologists from the private, academic, government, and television sectors will discuss early career experiences and offer advice on topics brought up by attendees.

Following the conference, attendees and all other AMS Annual Meeting participants are invited to attend the 4th Annual AMS Reception for Early Career Professionals.
