Many conferences offer travel awards as well as award certificates and cash prizes for the best student oral and poster presentations at the conference. Check the list below for specifics for each conference.
The Special Symposium on Severe Local Storms will give awards to the top three student poster presentations. Cash prizes and a certificate from AMS will be awarded to outstanding first author poster presenters who are undergraduate or graduate students presenting their own original work. Students who wish to be considered for this prize must indicate their eligibility when submitting their abstract.
The Special Symposium on Greening the Built Environment proudly announces the opportunity for two students to be awarded prizes for the top two poster presentations. These awards will recognize student contributions based on the quality of the poster and a submitted written paper. In addition, the Symposium will award funds for student travel based on an application process that will be announced at a later date.
Partial travel awards (of up to $500 each) will be awarded in recognition of outstanding abstracts submitted to the symposium. To be eligible, students must fulfill the following requirements:
· Full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at a University
· Lead author, personally presenting the work,
· Submission of an abstract to a session in which the symposium is the lead conference
The student needs to indicate whether they wish to be considered for travel awards when submitting his/her abstract.
Cash prizes ($200 each to the top oral and poster presenters, $100 to the second place oral and poster presenters) along with a certificate from AMS will be awarded to outstanding first author oral and poster presenters who are undergraduate or graduate students presenting their own original work. Students who wish to be considered for this prize must indicate their eligibility when submitting their abstract. These awards recognize outstanding student contributions based on an evaluation of both the submitted written paper and corresponding oral or poster presentation.
The organizers of the 5th Symposium on Prediction of the Madden-Julian Oscillation are pleased to offer partial travel grants for two students ($500 each). They will also provide cash awards for outstanding student oral ($200 first place) and poster ($200 first place) presentations within the MJO Symposium. Students who wish to be considered for this prize must be the first author, presenting their own work, and need to indicate their competition entry when submitting their abstract. These awards will be based on originality of research and quality of presentation delivery. Students who would like to be considered for partial travel support should also indicate so when submitting their abstract and may be asked to submit justification for these need-based funds.
The 5WRN Committee is proud to award four student prizes at the Student Award Opportunities. These awards recognize outstanding student contributions based on an evaluation of both the submitted written paper and corresponding oral or poster presentation.
The 7R2O Committee is pleased to host Student Presentation Awards at the 97th AMS Annual Meeting.
Award certificates and cash prizes will be given for the best Student (undergraduate or graduate) oral and poster presentations.
Students who wish to be considered for these awards should indicate so when submitting the abstract.
In order to be considered for an award, the Student must be the lead and presenting author.
The basis for an award will be:
a.) Originality of the work,
b.) Applicability to near-term or projected transition of research-to-operations, and
c.) Quality of the presentation and its delivery.
The Eighth Conference on Weather, Climate, Water and the New Energy Economy values student participation. As we have done in the past, we will have awards for the best student presentations to encourage student participation. Presentations will be judged based on scientific content and effectiveness of communication. In addition, we will be offering one partial travel award ($500) for a student with an outstanding abstract. In order to be eligible for the award, students must be:
-Enrolled as a full-time student (either undergraduate or graduate) at a university
-The lead author of an abstract accepted to the Eighth Conference on Weather, Climate, Water and the New Energy Economy
-The presenter of their work at the AMS Annual Meeting

Student Presentation Awards:
Three (3) presentation awards, in total, will be extended to the top student presenters (undergraduate or graduate) participating in the Eighth Conference on Environment and Health. The awards include $200 to assist with the expenses of participating in the conference and a certificate of achievement from the AMS. Students will be graded by board members, using a standardized rubric, where the highest cumulative scores will receive an award. To be eligible, students must participate in the Eighth Conference on Environment and Health and must be a current student in good academic standing (e.g. not on probation or disciplinary action for grades or conduct).

The Symposium Organizing Committee will host a student paper competition with award certificates and cash prizes for exemplary undergraduate and graduate student poster and oral presentations. Students must be the first author and presenting their own, original work. Students who wish to be considered for this prize must indicate their eligibility when submitting their abstract.
The 12th Symposium on Societal Applications: Policy, Research and Practice will make awards at the AMS Annual Meeting to recognize outstanding student contributions based on the evaluation of poster and oral presentations made during Symposium-led sessions.
Contenders for the awards must be:
- Enrolled at a University (either at undergraduate or graduate level),
- The lead-author, and
- Personally make the presentation of his/her work.
A student who wishes to be considered for this prize should indicate this when submitting his/her abstract.
The Symposium on the Urban Environment will award cash prizes and a certificate for first, second, and third places to first author students presenting their own original work as oral or poster presentations. Both graduate and undergraduate students can apply for the competition. Student presenters are encouraged to identify as a student when submitting the abstract. A BUE committee will attend student presentations and each member will then cast votes for the best oral or poster papers taking into consideration: scientific merit, contribution to the field of urban environment, as well as presentation skills. Award winners will be notified by the program chair after the annual meeting.
The 14th Conference on Polar Meteorology and Oceanography is pleased to support students conducting polar research. We will be awarding first and second place prizes for both poster and oral presentations given by students ($150 and 100 for first and second place oral presentations, respectively, and $100 and $65 for first and second place poster presentations, respectively). Student presentations will be judged on scientific content, presentation delivery, and the overall effectiveness of communication. You must indicate your eligibility for this award when submitting your abstract. Additionally, we will be offering four travel awards of $200 each to students, designed to cover student member registration fees and partially offset other travel-related costs. Students that are presenting their work at the conference and who would like to be considered for travel support should indicate so when submitting their abstract; further justification for need may be required. These awards will be vetted by the committee, and will be based primarily on need and research criteria to ensure a diversity of student involvement at the conference.

They will also provide cash awards for outstanding student oral ($200 first place, $150 second place, $100 third place) presentations at the conference. Students who wish to be considered for these awards must be the first author, presenting their own work, and need to indicate their competition entry when submitting their abstract. The outstanding paper awards will be based on originality of research and quality of presentation delivery. Students who would like to be considered for partial travel support should also indicate so when submitting their abstract and may be asked to submit justification for these need-based funds. The Aviation, Range, and Aerospace Meteorology (ARAM) committee of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) is proud to award a Best Student Prize at the 18th Conference on Aviation, Range, and Aerospace Meteorology held 22 – 26 January 2017 in Seattle, Washington. This award recognizes outstanding student contributions based on an evaluation of both the submitted written paper and corresponding oral or poster presentation.
Contenders for the award will have to:
* be enrolled at a University (either at undergraduate or graduate level),
* be the lead-author and personally make the presentation of their work,
* and provide an extended abstract (short paper) before the conference.
Students who wish to be considered for this prize should indicate that when submitting their abstract. Previous winners of this prize are no longer eligible.

The AMS 19th Conference on Atmospheric Chemistry is proudly to provide Student Travel Award (of up to $500 each) to partially support travel for outstanding students to attend 2017 AMS annual meeting and give oral presentations at one of the atmospheric chemistry sessions. To apply for the travel award, you must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at a University, and you also must be the lead author, personally presenting the work.
The student needs to indicate whether he/she wish to be considered for travel award when submitting the abstract. For those who are requesting the travel award, in addition to the above conditions, the 19thATMChem chairs will review the abstract and may request the student to provide references for his/her work, such as recommendation letter or/and school transcripts, before making a selection.

For those who are requesting partial travel support, in addition to the above conditions, the IOAS-AOLS co-chairs will review the abstract to determine how their work meets one or more of the following focus areas:
1. Observing Systems: atmosphere, ocean and land surface, in situ and remote. Comparisons with other observing systems.
2. Data Assimilation: New developments in methodology; research and operational applications on all spatial and temporal scales.
3. Numerical analysis and prediction experiments involving observations: data impact and observation sensitivity tests.
4. Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs).
5. Field Experiments: observational and assimilation results.
The two awards for the best oral presentation will be selected based on the originality and depth of research accomplished; the quality of the oral presentation; and the quality of the slides in the presentation.
We welcome and encourage undergraduate or graduate student submissions for both oral and poster presentations. Award certificates and cash prizes will be given for the best oral and poster presentations during the conference. The Climate Variability and Change Committee is pleased to host a student award for undergraduate or graduate first author oral and poster presenters. Students will be awarded a small cash prize, as well as a certificate from the AMS. These awards will be voted on by members of the Climate Variability and Change Committee, as well as peers in our field. Students who wish to be considered for these awards must indicate their eligibility when submitting their abstract.
Cash prizes along with a certificate from AMS will be awarded to outstanding first author oral and poster presenters who are undergraduate or graduate students presenting their own original work. Students who wish to be considered for this prize must indicate their eligibility when submitting their abstract. POSTER PRESENTATION AWARDS
Cash prizes for first and second place, along with a certificate from AMS will be awarded to outstanding first author poster presenters who are undergraduate or graduate students presenting their own original work. Students who wish to be considered for this prize must indicate their eligibility when submitting their abstract. These awards will be based on originality of research and quality of presentation delivery.
TRAVEL SUPPORT AWARDS
Partial travel support is available for up to two students (of up to $600 each) to attend and participate in the Houze Symposium. To be eligible for the travel support funds, the undergraduate or graduate student must be enrolled full time and be the lead author of an accepted abstract in the Houze Symposium program. Please note that selected students will be reimbursed by AMS after confirmation of attendance and providing proper receipts of approved travel expenses.
