The AMS Short Course on GOES-R Series: Products And User Applications will be
held on 7 January 2018 preceding the 98th AMS Annual Meeting in Austin,
Texas.
This course is designed to communicate to users the new capabilities made possible by
NOAA’s next generation GOES-R Series Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), Geostationary
Lightning Mapper (GLM), and derived products for improved environmental intelligence,
forecasts and warnings. These new measurements will produce more timely, detailed, and
accurate information than ever before. Short-course participants will have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience with GOES-16 data, showcasing the many applications to help improve forecasts and warnings of high impact weather and environmental phenomena. The primary goal of this course is to familiarize users with GOES-R Series capabilities, and how itcan improve their services to customers, saving lives and property.
The course format will consist of a balanced mix of presentation and guided hands-on
exercises/case studies demonstrating application of the new GOES-16 products.
Instructors include subject matter experts from NOAA/NESDIS, and various Cooperative
Institutes.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops or tablets to be able to participate
in the hands-on exercises.
