Megalodons, Mermaids, and Climate Change Book Drive and Webinar

Bring science literacy (and some laughs) to New Orleans students!

For our 105th Annual Meeting, the American Meteorological Society is excited to announce a partnership between the AMS 105th Annual Meeting Local Organizing Committee and New Orleans schools. We’re raising funds to distribute copies of Megalodons, Mermaids, and Climate Change to classrooms and school libraries across the city. With humor, easy-to-understand language, and fun illustrations, marine scientist Ellen Prager and meteorologist Dave Jones use a zany, frequently asked questions format to combat misinformation and make ocean and climate science engaging for all. Covering topics from dangerous marine life and coral reefs to hurricanes, weather forecasting, space weather, and climate change, the book is perfect for curious minds, educators, and science communicators alike. From middle school to high school, students will find the book fun and easy to read. Target audience is anyone aged 12-120!

Anyone registering for the Annual Meeting or related events will have the opportunity to purchase a book to donate when you register. The price of the book has been discounted for our fundraiser to $12.50, and your contribution will help place this fun and educational resource into the hands of students and educators in New Orleans schools. Your donation promotes science literacy and will inspire a new generation to explore the world around them.

Please consider making a contribution when you register for the 105th Annual Meeting. Be a part of bringing science to life in New Orleans classrooms!
