AMS is thrilled to bring you a transformative event focused on coastal safety and social science. Let's dive into what you can expect during this enriching experience:

Event Overview:

Meet us on the beach for an immersive exploration of coastal safety. These sessions are designed to help participants understand the complex interactions between weather, water, waves, and people, and how effective preparation and communication can save lives in and around the ocean. You will gain experience with beach safety that you can share with your audience–whether they are seasoned beachgoers or visiting the ocean for the very first time. A better understanding of coastal influences can lead to more effective communication strategies to ensure beachgoers' safety.

Highlights:

  • In-Water Experiences: Participate in this personal, in-water experience and learn how to interpret coastal water and weather conditions effectively. (You can also participate on the beach and not enter the water)

  • Understanding Coastal Dangers: Gain insights into the realities of coastal dangers beyond fatal drownings. Learn about the impact of injuries and the experiences of rescuers.

  • Myth of Common Sense: Explore the myth of common sense in coastal safety communication and discover the importance of shared experiences and understanding.

  • Respect the Ocean: Embrace the core principle of respecting the ocean and learn how to respond to dangerous situations in or near the water.

Take-Aways:

  • Gain skills to communicate coastal safety information effectively

  • Awareness of the human impact of aquatic conditions

  • Insight into assessing and interpreting weather water forecasts

  • Basic non-professional rescuer survival swimming and rescue skills
