As always, attendees look forward to connecting with colleagues and friends during the AMS Annual Meeting at the following social and networking events.
The Student Conference Poster Session is an opportunity for students to showcase their work to peers and potential collaborators. All poster presenters must be active 2017 AMS student members and an undergraduate or graduate student. Presenters will also have the opportunity to participate in the 2017 Student Conference Poster Competition.
A Welcome Reception will be held following the 97th Annual Review, New Fellows, and Featured Awards presentation. All are encouraged to attend.
In keeping with the 2017 AMS Conference theme of “Observations Lead the Way“, the Sixteenth Annual Colour of Weather theme is “Seeing Ourselves in Others”.
Just as we value high-quality observations in science, and are wary of how biases can comprise our understanding of the environment; we should be equally attentive to eliminating biases in how we see each other.
Too often our professional decision-making is limited by a perceived ‘otherness’ that we ascribe to people who do not look like us. “Seeing Ourselves in Others” helps us build stronger organizations that take advantage of the diverse skills we all bring to the table. Undertaking this task is especially important given the increased divisiveness that appears to characterize our Nation in current times.
Please join us at the 16th Annual Colour of Weather Reception for appetizers, expanding social networks, and exploring our commonalities.
When: Sunday, January 22, 2017: 7:00–9:00 PM
Where: Grand Ballroom A – Sheraton Seattle
All Are Welcome!
The event is co-sponsored by the NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences (NCAS), Howard University Graduate Program in Atmospheric Sciences, and the Center for Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Societal Impacts, and Environment and Penn State Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences.

Please join other attendees for the Opening Reception of the 2017 Annual Meeting, sponsored by the exhibiting companies. Local government officials and other dignitaries will be present for the ribbon-cutting event.
Participants have the opportunity to take advantage of senior scientist/researchers and enjoy good local cuisine. They will hear from members of the community who still love their profession after a decade or two in the field, obtain insight into different career paths within the meteorological field, and better understand each sector's responsibility.
