The Short Course:  “GOES-R Preview for all GOES Users” will be held on 22 January 2017 associated with the 97th AMS Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington.  Preliminary programs, registration, hotel, and general information will be posted on the AMS Web site (www.ametsoc.org).

Please join us for this short course designed to introduce users to the new capabilities made possible by NOAA’s next generation GOES-R Series Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM), and Space Weather instruments, for improved environmental intelligence, forecasts, and warnings. These new measurements will produce  more timely, detailed, and accurate information than ever before. Short-course participants will have the opportunity for hands-on experience with observed, proxy and simulated data that showcase the many applications to improve forecasts and warnings of high impact weather and environmental phenomena.

The primary goal of the course is to make users aware of GOES-R capabilities, and how it can improve their services to customers, and save lives and property.

The course format will consist of a balanced mix of presentations and hands on exercises demonstrating the applications of the new GOES-R products.

Instructors include subject matter experts from NOAA/NESDIS, and various Cooperative Institutes.

Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops or tablets for the hands-on exercises.
