2015 AMS Annual Meeting

Join us for the Third Annual AMS Conference for Early Career Professionals, hosted by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Board for Early Career Professionals (BECP), 4 January 2015 as part of the 95th AMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.  A registration fee of $25 has been set for this conference and registration must be completed online.  Early registration will be available on-line until 16 December 2014 at a rate of $25. Starting on 17 December 2014, late registration will be available for $40. On-Site registration ($40) may be available as space permits.

In 2012, the AMS established the BECP to serve as a resource for the development of early career professionals, both academic and in career, and to serve as a platform for early career involvement in a variety of AMS-sponsored activities.   More information on the BECP can be found on Facebook (search for “AMS Early Career Professionals”) and in the July 2012 issue of the Bulletin of the AMS.  The 3rd Annual AMS Conference for Early Career Professionals will take place on Sunday, 4 January 2015.

The conference will begin on Sunday morning with a joint session with the 14th Annual AMS Student Conference that will focus on writing and presentation skills.  The session will compose of speakers and group discussions.

The first half of the afternoon will feature involve rotating group discussions, led by professionals in the atmospheric sciences, who will focus on career skills, issues, and choices that affect early career professionals.  Topics will include work-life balance, leadership skills, and if you need to move on from the first job.

The second half of the afternoon will include two panel discussions.  One panel with AMS leadership will discuss how the Society can benefit members who are beginning their careers in the atmospheric sciences.  The second panel with early- and mid-career meteorologists from the private, academic, government, and television sectors will discuss early career experiences and offer advice on topics brought up by attendees.

Following the conference, attendees and all other AMS Annual Meeting participants are invited to attend the 5th Annual AMS Reception for Early Career Professionals on Sunday evening and a town hall meeting on Monday, 5 January 2015, that will feature a panel discussion on how to build a resume for different sectors of the atmospheric sciences.
