The 15th Conference on Environment and Health is organized by the AMS Board on Environment and Health.

Call for Papers

Oral and poster presentations are solicited on all topics related to environmental effects on human health, such as water- and vector-borne disease, air quality exacerbated pulmonary conditions, cold- and heat-related illness, and mental health impacts. We particularly encourage submissions that (i) address specific policy-relevant health questions that can be answered using weather and climate data; (ii) are innovative and novel in nature, including the use of new techniques, methods, and approaches; and (iii) describe specific, focused, and detailed methodologies, approaches, and investigations rather than general overviews of a topic.

Presentations on the following scientific themes are solicited:

  • Vulnerability, Risk, & Exposure: Applications in Heat Resilience
  • Coastal & Marine Health Issues and Risks of Water-Borne Disease
  • Inland Water & Health Issues: Flooding and Precipitation Extremes
  • Informed Health Decision Making
  • Environmental Justice: Cross-Cutting Methods & Lessons for Health Investigations.
  • Innovative Technologies in Environment & Health
  • Predictions and Projections of Health Impacts in a Changing Climate
  • Economic Valuation of Climate-Sensitive Health Effects
  • Mental Health and Conflict Effects of Weather and Climate
  • Healthy Cities Under Climate Change
  • Effectively Using Weather and Climate Data for Health Investigations
  • Atmospheric Aerosols and Human Health

Joint Sessions

  • Harnessing High Performance Computing to Support Modeling the Effect of Weather, Water, and Climate on Public Health (Joint with The Tenth Symposium on High Performance Computing for Weather, Water, and Climate)
  • Atmospheric Aerosols and Human Health (Joint with the 26th Conference on Atmospheric Chemistry and the 16th Symposium on Aerosol-Cloud-Climate Interactions)
  • Air Quality and Public Health Decisions with Earth Observations (Joint with the 26th Conference on Atmospheric Chemistry)

Student Award Opportunities

Six (6) presentation awards, in total, will be extended to the top student presenters (undergraduate or graduate) participating in the 15th Conference on Environment and Health. The awards of up to $200 will be given for outstanding oral and poster presentations to assist with the expenses of participating in the conference and a certificate of achievement from the AMS. Students will be graded by board members. To be eligible, students must participate in the 15th Conference on Environment and Health and must be a current student in good academic standing (e.g. not on probation or disciplinary action for grades or conduct).
