Weather-Ready Nation Scout In-Person Event

Sunday, 28 January 2024 | 7:45 AM - 12:15 Eastern | Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor, Key Ballroom Salon 7-8

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) is offering all Scouts (both BSA and Girl Scouts) ages 10 and up an opportunity to earn the Weather-Ready Nation patch at this year’s Annual Meeting. The program will teach Scouts about meteorology and give them an understanding of weather phenomena in the Baltimore, Maryland area.

All Scouts will learn aspects of meteorology and emergency management to become better prepared for weather-related natural disasters. Scouts will engage in one-on-one activities with professional meteorologists from the National Weather Service and the local media, atmospheric science researchers, and local emergency managers. During this program, Scouts will learn how to interpret symbols on a weather map, discover the differences between various weather alerts and how the public receives them, discuss what items need to be in an emergency kit, determine ways families and communities can be prepared in the event of a weather emergency, and more.

The Weather-Ready Nation patch requirements are designed so Scouts BSA are able to earn the Weather Merit Badge in its entirety by the end of the event, as well as complete a couple of the Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge requirements.

This event will take place on January 28th (7:45 AM till 12:15 PM ET).  For more information about the event, to download the event workbook and for instructions on how to sign up, click on this link.
