13th Conference on Artificial and Computational Intelligence and its Applications to the Environmental Sciences

The AMS Committee on Artificial Intelligence invites you to participate and contribute to our annual conference at the 2015 AMS annual meeting. The conference brings together AI researchers and environmental scientists, with the goal of fostering collaboration between the two groups. We aim to increase the understanding and use of AI techniques in the environmental sciences and to demonstrate the wide range of open problems in the environmental sciences.  AI encompasses a broad field of computational intelligence disciplines including data mining, machine learning, statistical learning, self-organizing systems, evolutionary learning and expert systems.

The theme for the 2015 AMS Annual Meeting is "Fulfilling the Vision of Weather, Water, and Climate Information for Every Need, Time and Place." Therefore, we particularly welcome contributions that employ AI techniques to create targeted, user-specific information at multiple spatial and temporal scales. In addition, we invite submissions on topics related to artificial intelligence and its applications to environmental science. Please contact the program chairpersons (contact information noted below) by 1 May if you would like to propose a session topic for this conference.

Please submit your abstract electronically via the Web by 1 August 2014 (refer to the AMS Web Page at http://www.ametsoc.org/meet/online_submit.html). An abstract fee of $95 (payable by credit card or purchase order) is charged at the time of submission. The abstract fee is refundable only if the abstract is not accepted. The $95 abstract fee includes the submission of your abstract, the posting of your extended abstract, and the uploading and recording of your presentation which will be archived on the AMS Web Page.

Authors of accepted presentations will be notified via e-mail by late September 2014. All extended abstracts are to be submitted electronically and will be available on-line via the Web. Instructions for formatting extended abstracts will be posted on the AMS Web Site. Authors have the option to submit manuscripts (up to 10 MB) electronically by 5 February 2015. All abstracts, extended abstracts and presentations will be available on the AMS Web site at no cost.

Student Award Opportunities

Award certificates and cash prizes will be given for the best student (undergraduate or graduate) oral and poster presentations at the conference.  Students who wish to be considered for this prize should indicate that when submitting their abstract.  The AMS Committee on Artificial Intelligence is also offering small travel awards for student AMS members who are presenting papers at the conference. You can apply for this by submitting an email to the chair describing your need, linking to your abstract, and a verification of your student status.
