In an effort to increase science literacy, AMS is committed to providing K–12 teachers with the opportunity to interact directly with scientists as an attendee at the 100th AMS Annual Meeting, which will take place 12-16 January 2020 in Boston, MA. Funding is being provided to teachers wishing to participate in this meeting through a newly established Teacher Travel Grant Program. Recipients of these grants will participate in the 19th Annual AMS WeatherFest, have mentors to guide them through the variety of Annual Meeting conferences and events, as well as scheduled opportunities for one-on-one learning and networking experiences with scientists from all sectors of the weather, water, and climate enterprise. The 29th Symposium on Education is one of the learning opportunities for teachers at the Annual Meeting.
The AMS Teacher Travel Grant program will cover conference registration, airfare, hotel stay, plus an allowance for meals. You do not need to be an AMS member to apply, but you will need to create an AMS profile. The application period is open from 1 August - 30 September 2019. Recipients will be notified in early November. Any questions about the Teacher Travel Grant program should be directed to Adam Kelly, [email protected], 617-226-3904.
