Abstract Fee and Author Instructions
Saturday, 11 January - Sunday, 12 January 2020
The student conference is intended for all undergraduate and graduate students. In order to attend the AMS Student Conference, you must be a current student member, or member with student privileges, of the AMS by NOVEMBER 1. You must be a student to present a poster at the Poster Session!
This year, sessions at the student conference will focus on self-exploration and understanding through exposure to career options and recent research in the geosciences. As this year’s 19th annual Student Conference coincides with the centennial of the AMS, invited keynote lectures and sessions will show how the weather enterprise has promoted ideas and fostered innovations throughout the past hundred years and simultaneously look to the future. Speakers from the private, broadcast, academic, and government sectors will engage both undergraduate and graduate students with topics related to networking tips, field work experience, and an investigation of how historical events have shaped research and communication innovations. During the conference, a career fair and networking evening will provide a forum for students to personally interact with potential employers and graduate institutions. In addition, a special poster session at the conclusion of the conference will provide a great opportunity for students to showcase their research.
We encourage active AMS student members to submit abstracts on a wide range of topics. All accepted abstracts will be scheduled as poster presentations for the 19th Student Conference Poster Session during the evening of Sunday, 12 January 2020. The Poster Session is a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their work to peers and potential collaborators. Presenters will also have the opportunity to participate in the 2020 Student Conference Poster Competition. Please view the guidelines for the student conference poster session and competition.
We welcome abstract submissions about student projects from across the atmospheric and related sciences, and we hope to accommodate all submitted abstracts at the Poster Session. Please submit your abstract electronically via the AMS Abstract Portal by 4 October 2019 and ensure you have applied for or renewed your AMS student membership prior to submitting your abstract. Authors of accepted presentations for the Poster Session will be notified via e-mail by mid-November 2019. There is no abstract submission fee, but poster presenters will be required to register for the AMS Student Conference, which is separate from AMS Annual Meeting registration.
