Observational Needs: A Survey, Agency Plans and How We Decide

This Presidential Session will be comprised of presentations on 1) The results of the 2017 survey on observational needs of the community; 2) Observational needs identified by the Priorities for Weather Research report to Congress; 3) NOAA’s plans for new observations; 4) NOAA’s plans for their future satellite architecture.   The speakers will also address how the value of new observations is assessed and how decisions on new observing systems are made.   A discussion period is planned to engage the audience on these issues.
