Bridging Spirituality, Faith, and Science for Weather and Climate Resilience: A Community Gathering

Thursday, 1 February 2024 | 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM Eastern | Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor, Key 8

This invite-only and in-person only event will be hosted by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Committee on Spirituality, Multifaith Outreach and Science (COSMOS); Interfaith Power & Light (IPL), the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Thriving Earth Exchange, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER).

This event seeks to foster a constructive dialogue between spiritual and faith-based leaders and professionals in the Weather, Water, and Climate (WWC) community (e.g., National Weather Service, Federal Agencies, Academics, and research labs) tailored to the specific environmental issues of the Mid-Atlantic Region. This is an interactive and listening session, whereby spiritual and faith-based leaders can share their community’s unique needs and aspirations regarding weather, water, and climate resilience with the WWC.  Key goals are:

  1. Provide a platform for spiritual and faith-based communities to express their specific needs and aspirations related to weather, water, and climate issues, with a focus on issues relevant to the Mid-Atlantic Region, including the DMV and Baltimore areas.
  2. Encourage networking and relationship building between spiritual/faith-based leaders and WWC professionals to create opportunities for collaboration on environmental initiatives, funding, and projects.
  3. Identify ways to streamline the communication of weather and climate resources and tools to spiritual and faith-based communities, ensuring effective dissemination of critical information.

Since we are near Washington D.C., we also welcome National and International WWC or Spiritual/Faith-based organizations for coalition building and dialogue.
