"The current partial government shutdown is frustrating for all of us, but especially for our government employee colleagues who are directly affected. We continue to be hopeful that it will be resolved in time for many of those colleagues to join us for the 99th AMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix, 6–10 January. No matter how this works out, however, you can rest assured that the AMS meeting will be a terrific and significant event for the weather, water, and climate community. We are working closely with the volunteers who are organizing conferences, symposiums, and other sessions and events for the meeting to ensure a productive and valuable week for all attendees."
The government shutdown has the potential to greatly impact the ability of government employees to travel to Phoenix for the Annual Meeting next week. While we are hopeful that the shutdown will end in time for all of our program chairs, session chairs, competition judges, and presenters to attend the Annual Meeting as planned, we do need to be prepared for a scenario in which they will not be able to join us in Phoenix.
Luckily, though, the AMS community is ready to jump in and help. We have already received multiple offers of help from attendees that will still be able to travel to Phoenix. Anyone who wants to help is encouraged to click the button below and fill out the Google form.
The hotels are now allowing cancellations 24 hours out from arrival.
AMS has shifted the registration cancellation deadline as noted below:
We are hoping that by making these changes, it will help to allow the extra time for the government shutdown to end.
We are currently working on a plan for remote presentations and will pass this along to our program chairs, session chairs, and authors next week if needed.
Please email [email protected] with any requests for cancellations.
If you have any questions at all about the Annual Meeting, please email [email protected].
