In an effort to increase science literacy, AMS is committed to providing K–12 teachers with the opportunity to interact directly with scientists as an attendee at the 99th AMS Annual Meeting, which will take place 6–10 January 2019 in Phoenix, AZ. Funding is being provided to teachers wishing to participate in this meeting through a newly established Teacher Travel Grant Program. Recipients of these grants will participate in the 18th Annual AMS WeatherFest, have mentors to guide them through the variety of Annual Meeting conferences and events, as well as scheduled opportunities for one-on-one learning and networking experiences with scientists from all sectors of the weather, water, and climate enterprise. The 28th Symposium on Education is one of the learning opportunities for teachers at the Annual Meeting.
Applications were due on 12 October 2018. Recipients will be notified in early November.
