For those attending the 2023 AMS Annual Meeting in Denver in-person, we would like to invite you to participate in the NWA/AMS Research Operations Nexus (RON) Meetup, which will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM on Wednesday, January 11th in the Colorado Convention Center - Mile High Ballroom 2C/3C (Ballroom Level).
The event is free with AMS Annual Meeting registration, but registration for the event is encouraged as seating will be limited. Please go here to register.
For those not familiar, the RON is an interactive meetup between research and operational meteorologists, modelers, hydrologists, students, social scientists, etc. The goal is simple: "To plant and water the seeds of collaboration between folks from the groups, which we hope will germinate during the meeting week and blossom beyond the conference itself." The RON Meetup is an event created and operated by the National Weather Association. The name was inspired by the memory of Ron Przybylinski. Ron was a former Science and Operations Officer (SOO) at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in St. Louis, Missouri and he left the legacy of his unending motivation to interconnect weather operations and research in strong, meaningful, and enduring ways.
The RON Meetup is a great way to bring operational and research folks, professors, researchers, and students together with operational meteorologists, hydrologists, broadcasters, emergency managers, etc. to see if there are common interests that can lead to R2O and/or O2R opportunities. There will be ten tables and three rounds of interaction covering a wide variety of topics (Societal Response, Winter Weather, Severe Weather, Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Forecasting, High Resolution NWP, Probabilistic Forecasting etc.). A facilitator directs and moderates the discussion at the tables where we hope to have a mix of folks from across the Weather Enterprise with common interests. Additional information can be found on this webpage.
The NWA thanks the AMS for their continued support of the RON Meetup.
