Sustainability@BU will facilitate a walking tour of Boston University's eco-friendly education, infrastructure, and research initiatives including the Earth House, the rooftop Carbon Research Laboratory, and the new Data Sciences Building. The Earth House is a living learning community in which students practice day-to-day sustainable living. As a historic brownstone, the environmental initiatives implemented can be easily applied to other rowhouses common in cities throughout the US and Europe. The Carbon Research Laboratory focuses on the measurement of atmospheric and terrestrial carbon pools and fluxes, using the rooftop of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to mount various meteorological instruments. Additionally, the tour will include the new Data Sciences Building which uses geothermal wells to regulate its temperature. As part of BU's Facilities Management and Planning, sustainability@BU supports endeavors throughout the campus in efforts to reduce the University’s environmental footprint.
