All presenters must also register for the meeting.

The 18th Conference on Weather, Water, Climate, and the New Energy Economy (18Energy) is sponsored by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and organized by the AMS Energy and Renewable Energy Committees.

Call for Papers

Papers for this conference are solicited on:

  • Energy Security as Affected by Extreme Weather and Climate Events
  • Energy Storage, Distributed Resources, and Demand-Side Management
  • Extreme Weather & Climate Events for Energy Systems Resiliency
  • Forecast Evaluation and Use of Probabilistic Forecasts for Energy Applications
  • Hydrokinetic & Marine Energy
  • Grid Operations and Outage Prediction
  • Integrated Energy System Modeling
    • Abstracts submitted to this topic would ideally cover not only a single aspect of the energy system in isolation (e.g., resource assessment or forecasted generation from a single power plant or all plants of a single technology in a region), but rather multiple aspects of the energy system simultaneously.
  • Load Forecasting in a Transitioning Energy Economy
  • Subseasonal-to-Seasonal Forecasting Applications for Energy
  • Solar Energy Resource Assessment
  • Solar Energy Forecasting
  • Wind Energy Resource Assessment
  • Wind Energy Forecasting
  • Wind Flow and Wake Modeling
  • From Research to Regulations for Energy Systems
  • Green Hydrogen Systems
  • Impacts of Weather & Climate on the Oil, Gas, & Nuclear Sectors
  • Impacts of Energy Development & Production on Weather & Climate
  • Other Energy-Related Topics

Joint Sessions

Papers are also solicited for these joint sessions:

  • Powering People Through Clean Energy and Equitable Transportation Solutions (Joint with 43rd Conference on Environmental Information Processing Technologies, hosted by 18Energy)
    • Soliciting abstracts from the CLEETS Global Center and other groups doing research in related topics.
  • AI Applications in the Energy Sector (Joint with 26th Conference for Artificial Intelligence for Environmental Science, hosted by 18Energy)
  • Fire Weather, Risk, and Power Grid Safety (Joint with 15th Symposium on the Weather, Water, and Climate Enterprise, hosted by 18Energy)
  • Boundary-Layer Meteorology and Energy Applications (Joint with and hosted by 26th Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence)
  • Advancing and Scaling Impact with NASA Energy and Infrastructure Data: Societal Applications from the Prediction Of Worldwide Energy Resources (POWER) and Risk Analysis and Solutions Innovators (RASI) Projects (Joint with and hosted by 22nd Symposium on Societal Applications: Policy, Research and Practice)

Student Award Opportunities

Student Presentation Awards

The 18th Conference on Weather, Water, Climate, and the New Energy Economy is proud to provide outstanding student presentation awards at the AMS 107th Annual Meeting in Denver, CO 10-14 January 2027. Monetary awards of up to $200 will be distributed for oral presentations and poster presentations in addition to a PDF certificate from AMS. Students must be enrolled at a college or university at the time of submission and must be the lead author and personally present the work at the meeting. Submitters should indicate their eligibility for student awards when submitting their abstracts. Award recipients will be informed of the committee's decision by early February 2027.
