The 31st Conference on Applied Climatology is organized by the AMS Committee on Applied Climatology. 

At the 107th Annual Meeting of the American Meteorological Society, the 31st Applied Climatology Conference will bring together professionals in atmospheric and climate sciences to discuss the critical challenges facing our planet. This year’s focus is on the intersections of climatology, technology, and societal needs.

Our conference is adding several new joint sessions this year, as well as a tools cafe poster slam. Key sessions include “Tools and Products for Real-Time Monitoring of the Climate,” which will equip attendees with the latest techniques for monitoring climate data effectively. A keynote fireside chat will explore the relationship between climatology and artificial intelligence, showing how trustworthy machine learning can deepen our understanding of atmospheric phenomena and strengthen the future climate workforce.  

Alongside our keynote, we are very excited about our inaugural joint session on artificial intelligence and machine learning for Applied Climatology, focusing on advancements in climate data processing and modeling and highlighting actionable insights for societal and environmental decision-making. Our schedule will showcase current tools and methodologies while encouraging discussion on future applications of AI/ML in the climatology sector. By responsibly utilizing big data and advanced computational techniques, scientists and practitioners can gain deeper insights into climatological patterns and trends, ultimately optimizing climate models. Attendees will gain trustworthy insights into AI's predictive capabilities in climate science, which can help drive innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges.

Furthermore, a panel discussion titled "Interaction Between Climate Scientists and Nonscientific Professionals" will highlight effective communication and collaboration between climate scientists and stakeholders, sharing best practices for applying climate science in various fields. 

The conference will also feature a rare session on how mixed media, particularly extended reality (XR) art, can raise climate awareness through creative engagement. This session will be an interactive “Tools Cafe” Poster Session that showcases innovative educational tools and gamification strategies to improve climate literacy. If you have a tool that actively engages your audience, is suitable for a museum environment, can be played interactively, features immersive, interactive art, or uses mixed media to convey its message, then this session is ideal for you.
