Call for Papers

We invite submissions of original papers for oral and poster presentations at the 29th Conference on Probability and Statistics. We encourage contributions on a wide range of topics that combine Probability and Statistics with various disciplines in research and applied science, including but not limited to:

  • Ensemble Methods and Multimodel Forecasting;
  • Forecast Verification, Evaluation, and Diagnostics;
  • Traditional vs Novel Methods;
  • Postprocessing for User-Oriented Applications (such as Energy, Agriculture, and Hydrology);
  • Uncertainty Quantification and Communication for Decision Support;
  • Interpretability and Physical Consistency in Artificial Intelligence for Probabilistic Prediction;
  • Probability, Statistics, and Machine Learning in Climate Science including Event Attribution;
  • Extreme Value Analysis and Prediction of Rare Events;
  • Transitioning Statistical Innovations from Research to Operations;
  • Statistical Estimation Methods including Hypothesis Testing, and the Assessment of Significance in Atmospheric Applications; and
  • Other Topics and Cross-Disciplinary Applications not mentioned above.

Joint Sessions

  • Ensemble Methods and Multimodel Forecasting (Joint with Third Symposium on the Future of Weather, Forecasting, and Practice)
  • Interpretability and Physical Consistency in Artificial Intelligence for Probabilistic Prediction (Joint with 25th Conference on Artificial Intelligence for Environmental Science)
  • Postprocessing for User-Oriented Applications (Joint with 40th Conference on Hydrology / 17th Conference on Weather, Water, Climate, and the New Energy Economy)
  • Uncertainty Quantification for Decision Support (Joint with 14th Symposium on Building a Weather-Ready Nation: Enhancing Our Nation's Readiness, Responsiveness, and Resilience to High Impact Weather Events / Houston Forum on Climate Linked Economics)
  • Probability and Statistics in Climate Science (Joint with 39th Conference on Climate Variability and Change)
  • Extreme Value Analysis and Prediction of Rare Events (Joint with 22nd Major Weather Impacts of 2025)
  • AI-Driven versus Traditional Statistical Post-Processing: A Probabilistic Verification Framework for Weather Forecasting (Joint with 25th Conference on Artificial Intelligence for Environmental Science)

Student Award Opportunities

Student Presentation Award

The 29th Conference on Probability and Statistics is proud to provide outstanding student presentation awards at the AMS 106th Annual Meeting. Monetary awards of up to $200 will be distributed for oral presentations in addition to a PDF certificate from AMS. Students must be enrolled at a college or university at the time of submission and must be the lead author or presenter of the work. Submitters should indicate their eligibility for student awards when submitting their abstracts. Award recipients will be informed of the committee's decision by late February 2026.

Student Presenter Travel Allowance

The Committee on Probability and Statistics is awarding three (3) travel grants of up to $500 each to allow student presenters to attend the AMS 106th Annual Meeting in Houston, TX 25 - 29 January 2026. The award should be used to offset travel related expenses only (registration fees, transportation, lodging and food). To apply, students (undergraduate and graduate) should prepare a short written statement (no more than one page) declaring their financial need and circumstance, relevance of their research to the conference, how they will benefit from attending the conference and a copy of their abstract for the meeting. Students who wish to apply must submit their application to the program chairs via email with the subject line “AMS 106th Annual Meeting - Student Presenter Travel Allowance Application” to Julia Velletta ([email protected]) and Yu Zhang ([email protected]).

Deadline for applications: 31 October 2025

Recipients will be notified on or before: 7 November 2025
