The 24th Conference on Planned and Inadvertent Weather Modification is sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the Committee on Planned and Inadvertent Weather Modification.

Call for Papers

Papers for this conference are solicited on:

  • Ice nucleation and glaciogenic cloud seeding studies;
  • Studies using cloud seeding agents other than silver iodide;
  • Laboratory studies of aerosols, such as ice nucleating particles (INP) and GIant CCN (GCCN) that act as seeding agents;
  • Modification of mixed-phase clouds;
  • Modification of warm-phase clouds;
  • New instrumentation or technological advances related to weather modification;
  • Recent field campaign results on planned or inadvertent weather modification;
  • Societal and economic implications of planned and inadvertent weather modification;
  • Techniques for evaluating weather modification studies.

Joint Sessions

  • Cloud and precipitation responses to aerosol pollution, weather modification, and climate intervention (Joint between the 24th Conference on Planned and Inadvertent Weather Modification and the 16th Symposium on Aerosol - Cloud - Climate Interactions)

Student Award Opportunities

Paper Awards

The Committee on Planned and Inadvertent Weather Modification welcomes abstract submissions from undergraduate and post-graduate students. Awards will recognize two outstanding presentations given by students of the oral and poster mediums. Students must be enrolled at a college or university and must be the lead author or presenter of the work. Registrants should indicate their eligibility for student awards when submitting their abstracts. Award recipients will be informed of the committee's decision February 2024

Travel Award

The Committee on Planned and Inadvertent Weather Modification is also awarding one travel grant of $430 to attend the AMS 104th Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD January 28 - February 1 2024. To apply, students (Undergraduate and Post-Graduate) should prepare a short written statement (no more then one page) declaring their financial need and circumstance, relevance of their research to the conference, how they will benefit from attending the conference and a copy of their abstract for the meeting. Students who wish to apply must submit their application to the program chair Nick Dawson ([email protected]).
