Special Symposium on Global and Mesoscale Models: Updates and Center Overviews

Abstract Submissions

Abstracts were due on August 8, 2018.

Author and Presenter Instructions

The AMS Committee on Weather Analysis and Forecasting is organizing a one-day symposium at the 2019 AMS Annual Meeting on recent updates made to operational modeling systems by the government, academia, and the private sectors. The emphases of this special symposium will be to highlight visions from national and international forecast centers and recent development and implementation of global- and regional-scale weather prediction models, including nested models, convection-allowing models, tropical cyclone models, and hydrological models. Advances in physics package development, development of ensemble systems for probabilistic forecasts, and operational data assimilation techniques at both global and regional scales will be provided. Updates on post-processing and verification across all scales will also be presented.

Topics Covered

Papers for this conference are solicited on the following:

  • Operational forecast center vision updates;
  • global- and regional-scale model development updates;
  • common community physics packages;
  • ensemble development updates;
  • data assimilation updates; and
  • post-processing and verification package updates.
